1. MIROSOT'97 Information

The second Micro-Robot World Cup Soccer Tournament (MIROSOT'97) will be held at KAIST, Taejon, Korea on June 1 - 5, 1997. An international TECHNOPOLIS SUMMIT organized by Taejon Metropolitan City will also be held along with MIROSOT'97. A one day technical workshop will be held on June 1st, followed by four days of competitions.

Matches shall be played by two teams, each consisting of THREE robots (three a side). The Single-MIROSOT (S-MIROSOT) competitions shall be held with two teams, each with a single robot (single a side). Participants can bring their own team or can join as an international joint team (IJT) with a KAIST team. Those who wish to participate as an IJT, will be provided with the robot systems (hardware). In either of the cases all participants should have their own software(strategies for soccer).

Participating teams can register for the three a side and/or the single a side categories. No restrictions on the qualifications of the participants will be imposed. All the participants are requested to submit and present papers on their robots and the schemes followed.

Please send the abstracts for the workshop to the MIROSOT'97 Secretariat on or before 1st April, 1997. It is recommended to send the submissions by email to mirosot@vivaldi.kaist.ac.kr. Acceptance of papers will be intimated by 30th April, 1997 along with guidelines for the submission of camera-ready manuscript. The camera-ready manuscript should reach the secretariat by 15th May, 1997.

- Prize Money and Financial Support for Participants

The tournament winner will be awarded the MIROSOT CUP with the
following prize money:

- First place winner: 2,000,000 (Korean) wons
- Second place winner: 1,500,000 wons
- Third place winner: 1,000,000 wons

The winner of S-MIROSOT will be awarded the ROBOT CUP with following
prize money:

- First place winner: 1,000,000 wons
- Second place winner: 700,000 wons
- Third place winner : 500,000 wons

MIROSOT'97 Organizing Committee has decided to provide supporting
expenses to teams placed on the round of 16 of MIROSOT participants.
S-MIROSOT participants are not financially supported.

- Domestic: 300,000 wons for each team
- Asia: 800,000 wons for each team
- Continents of America and Australia: 1,500,000 wons for each team
- Europe and Africa: 1,800,000 wons for each team




2. Update of The Laws of The Game

The laws of the game have been updated for MIROSOT'97. The complete description of the laws could be available in the web site,
www.mirosot.org.

- The thickness of lines on the playground: Law 1(b)
- "The Goal Area" instead of Defense Zone: Law 1(d)
- The rules about uniforms of robots and their side-colors: Law 2(b.ii)
- The team managers can call for 'time-out' during the game:
Law 2(d)
- The host computer can send any information to the robots during the game: Law 3 (Previous Law 3: position information only)
- Place Kick: with the start of the play, the ball must be initially kicked or passed toward the side of attacking team: Law 6(c)
- In the case of a tie of a game, over-time of 3 minutes is introduced with the rule of "sudden death." If a winner is not determined until the end of over-time, then comes spot-kicks: Law 7(b)
- 10 seconds rule: Law 8(e)
- The formation allowable in the case of goal-kick becomes restrictive: Law 12



3. North American MIROSOT Championship

We currently have the following information on the North American MIROSOT Championship:
- A simple registration form and complete details will be up on the UC Davis web page soon which will be linked to www.mirosot.org.
- Set up will be on Friday April 18 starting at 5pm. Teams may practice all night if desired. Practice will also be available up until 12 noon on Sat April 19.
- Competition will start at 1pm on Saturday and run until about 4pm. they are still working on the details of the competition structure, but every team will be sure to have at least two matches.
- The competition will be held on the campus of the University of California Davis --- exact site will be available soon.
- No support is available for teams to come to the competition and there are no cash prizes. However, there will be trophies for first, second and third in both the single-robot competition (S-MIROSOT) and three-robot competition (MIROSOT).
