[Summary of IRO 2004]

The 6th International Robot Olympiad (IRO) 2004 was held at KAIST, Daejeon, Korea commenced on November 4 until November 7, 2004. This IRO 2004 was co-organized by Daejeon Metropolitan City (Mayor Yum, Hong-Chul), Korea Science Foundation (President Choi, Young-Hwan) and IROC (Chairman Kim, Jong-Hwan). The event was also sponsored by various government organizations in Korea including MOST, MOICE and MIC.
A total of 240 participants in 68 teams from 10 nations participated in this event. During IRO 2004, the International Workshop on Ubiquitous Robotics (Nov. 4) and the 2nd International Symposium on Robot Education (Nov. 5) also took place at the same venue. These two events provided constructive and informative opportunities for many IRO participants.
This year, IRO introduced a new division, RoboLeague, in addition to the existing Junior (under 12) and Challenge (13~18) leagues. RoboLeague was designed for older participants (19+) including university students.
RoboDancing, a component of the RoboLeague games, was one of the most popular games in IRO2004. The Mexican team conducted an impressive performance.
In the Creativity Category, a theoretical test was introduced to IRO for the first time this year. This test was organized by Dr. Igor Verner from Israel.
