3.1 1st FIRA Workshop on Humanoid Robot Soccer (HuroSot)
1st FIRA Workshop on Humanoid Robot Soccer (HuroSot) took
place from January 23 to 24, 2002 at KAIST in Daejeon, Korea.
The Workshop participants had the opportunity to meet and
discuss relating to humanoid robot soccer in particular and other
complex robotic systems used for entertainment and education
in general.
Prof. Thomas Braunl and Jacky Baltes (Co-Chairs for HuroSot) and
invited speakers had a rule meeting for HuroSot games on Jan 24,
2002. The final version of the rules for HuroSot will be available
at the FIRAnet soon.
The invited speakers include:
= Prof. Andrew L. Kun (Univ. of New Hampshire, U.S.A.)
- Title: Biped Walking Using Neural Networks
= Prof. Changjiu Zhou (Singapore Polytechnic)
- Title: Learning in Biped Robots Assisted by
Perception-Based Information
= Prof. Jacky Baltes (Univ. of Auckland, New Zealand)
- Title: Reinforcement Learning of Walking Gaits
= Prof. Thomas Braunl (Univ. of Western Australia)
- Title: Dynamic Balancingof a Humanoid Robot
= Prof. Jun Jo (Griffith Univ., Australia)
- Title: Introduction to SimuroSot
For more information or presentation papers, please visit the
FIRAnet.
3.2 Upgraded Software System for SimuroSot
The Robot Soccer Simulation Game, SimuroSot, has been developed
to simulate the physical workings of Robot Soccer in an electronic
cyber-based environment. The participants build strategies and
compete with each other on computer screens without needing real
robots. SimuroSot 2002 will include two categories - 11:11 and
5:5 SimuroSot.
Strategies for the 5:5 SimuroSot program (in 3D) can be developed
in both C++ and Lingo, a script language for Macromedia Director.
The Lingo version is currently available and the Development Kit
can be downloaded from the FIRAnet. It contains an installation
program, an executive platform program, example strategies, and
a manual for beginners to learn how to program in Lingo. Another
version for C++ programmers will be ready on the FIRAnet soon.
A 2D simulation platform for 11:11 is for C++ programmers and
currently available at the FIRAnet.
If you would like to take part in the Simurosot competition in
May 2002, and are interested in getting more information on
5-a-side and 11-a-side SimuroSot programmings, please contact
Prof. Jun Jo atand Prof. Bingrong Hong at
