3.3 Official Website Updated
The IROC website has been updated to provide useful information about
Robot Olympiad. The official site of the 2003 IRO website will be up
separately soon.
4. 4. News on FIRA Robot Soccer Categories
4.1 HuroSot Updated
FIRA HuroSot (Humanoid Robot) rules have been modified and updated
by the FIRA HuroSot subcommittee. A latest version of the HuroSot rules
is available at the FIRAnet (www.fira.net/soccer/hurosot/overview.html).
The major change in the rules is that only fully autonomous humanoid
robots (i.e., all sensing, processing, and power is on-board) will be
allowed in the competition. However, teams that can not meet this
requirement will be allowed to compete in a series of demonstration
events.
There is another change in the penalty kick competition, a crowd favorite
in 2002, where a goal keeper is included. This means that all humanoid
robots must be able to overcome another challenge: they must fulfill the
role of a goal keeper as well.
The rules also include a section on the competition rules, that is rules
related to the organization of the competition. This section explains the
point system in more detail and puts in writing the way that the competition
was run in 2002. Please note that all competitors are expected to take part
in the "free program." The aim of the "free program" is to provide an
enjoyable show for the spectators as well as to allow the competitors to
highlight the specific features of their robots. It also allows the organizing
committee to try out possible new events or variations for the next year.
If you are interested in or have any question related to the humanoid
robots and HuroSot, please contact Prof. Jacky Baltes, Univ. of Manitoba,
Canada, [jacky@cs.umanitoba.ca].
