FIRA HuroSot (Humanoid Robot) rules were updated and changed
by FIRA HuroSot subcommittee.
The goal of the HuroSot league is to encourage research in practical,
autonomous, highly mobile, flexible, and versatile robotic platforms.
As a benchmark problem, the goal of the HuroSot league is to develop
humanoid robots that can play soccer well against other robots or even
human opponents in the future.
Please refer to below message from Prof. Jacky Baltes and find file
attahced. A latest version of the HuroSot rules is also available at the
FIRAnet (www.FIRA.net).
Thank you.

------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi! HuroSotters,
After an exciting, entertaining, and enjoyable FIRA competition in June,
I had to focus on other things during July and August. In particular,
I moved from Auckland, New Zealand to Winnipeg, Canada.
Now that I have settled in, it is my great pleasure to announce the
release of the HuroSot rules for 2003.
The biggest change in the rules is that only fully autonomous humanoid
robots (i.e., all sensing, processing, and power is on-board) will be
allowed in the competition. However, teams that can not meet this
requirement will be allowed to compete in a series of demonstration
events.
Another change is that the penalty kick competition, a crowd favorite
in 2002, will include a goal keeper. This means that all humanoid
robots must overcome another challenge: they must play goal keeper.
The rules now also include a section on the competition rules, that is
rules related to the organization of the competition. This section
explains the point system in more detail and puts in writing the way
that the competition was run in 2002. Please note that all competitors
are expected to take part in the "free program."
I also would like to use this newsletter to keep the community informed
about the latest developments regarding humanoid robots and HuroSot.
Please send me email if you have information which is of interest to other
HuroSotters.
Personal announcement: As some of you may know, I started in a new
position as Associate Professor in Computer Science at the University
of Manitoba, Winnipeg, Canada. I have funding for one PhD. or
MSc. student working in the field of humanoid robotics.
For details please contact me.
