The 2004 FIRA Invitation Cup took place at the Fort Mason in San Francisco, US, from March 20 to March 21. FIRA Invitation Cup was hosted by FIRA and arranged by Robotics Society of America, a non-profit robotics organization and national partner for IROC.
Total of 6 teams from 5 countries (Korea, Germany, Slovenia, Canada, Japan) were invited in 2 Categories (MiroSot Middle League, HuroSot) and Ljubliana Dragons from Slovenia won the 1st place in MiroSot category and KIBOT from Korea won the Technical Award in HuroSot category.
At MiroSot category, KINGGO, 2002-2003 World Champion team had hard time because they had problem with new vision system and radio frequency conflict. Dortmund Droids made the 2nd place.
Hurosot Category was held by 4 sub-event, Dash, Obstacle Race, Penalty Kick, and newly-made ‘Lift and Carry’ event. But there was no robot which fulfilled all the mission under the rule. KIBOT received the Technical Award for successful demonstration of Wind-Surfing. (autonomous balancing).
Because there has been few opportunity for U.S robot enthusiast to watch the robot soccer game, many people were interested in autonomous robot soccer system and TechTV interviewed about us. There was also special event “Challenge for Intelligence” which was a game between 3 autonomous robots and 5 robots manually controlled by kids.
FIRA and Robotics Society of America have agreed to enhance Intelligent Robotics Events in U.S and cooperation for the forthcoming FIRA Robot WorldCup 2004 and International Robot Olympiad in Korea.
