Simulated Evolution And Learning (SEAL’04)
****************************************************
October 21st 쭯 23rd, 2004 // KAIST, Daejeon, Korea
****************************************************

Organized by: Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST)
Supported by: Federation of International Robot-soccer Association (FIRA)

The 5th International Conference on Simulated Evolution And Learning
(SEAL’04) will be held from October 21st to 23rd, 2004 at KAIST, Daejeon,
Korea, in conjunction with the FIRA Cup and Congress.

⊆ Period: October 21st to 23rd, 2004 (tentative)

⊆ Venue: KAIST, Daejeon, Korea (www.KAIST.ac.kr)

⊆ Aims and Scopes

Evolution and learning are two fundamental forms of adaptation. This bi-annual
conference aims at exploring these two forms of adaptation and their roles and
interactions in adaptive systems. Since 1996, the conference has been a common
forum for researchers and practitioners from different backgrounds to exchange
new ideas and the latest results in simulated evolution and learning. Papers on
cross-fertilization of ideas between evolutionary learning and other machine
learning approaches, such as neural network learning, reinforcement learning,
decision tree learning, and fuzzy system learning, are strongly encouraged.

⊆ Topics include but are not limited to:

APPLICATIONS
- Classification and Recognition/ - Design/ - Evolutionary Robotics/ - Scheduling

EVOLUTIONARY LEARNING
- Artificial Life/ - Bayesian Evolutionary Algorithms/ - Co-Evolutionary Learning

HYBRID SYSTEMS
- Adaptive systems/ - Evolutionary Neuro-fuzzy Systems/ - Evolutionary
Reinforcement Learning/ - Soft Computing

THEORY
- Coding Methods/ - Co-evolution/ - Collective Behavior

METHODOLOGY
- Ant Colony/ - Artificial Ecology/ - Evolutionary Economics and Games/
- Evolutionary Quantum Computing/ - Evolvable Hardware/ - GA, EP, ES, GP
- Molecular Computing/ - Multi-objective Optimization

⊆ Concurrent Events:

FIRA Cup and CongressSEAL'04 will be held in conjunction with the FIRA Cup
and Congress. All participants of the conference can watch the FIRA Robot Soccer

Competitions played by robot soccer teams from all over the world! This provides
a good opportunity for scientists and engineers to interact with one another in a
relaxing but stimulating environment.

⊆ Important Dates

- Abstract Submission Deadline : June 30, 2004
- Notification of Acceptance : July 30, 2004
- Camera-ready Manuscript Due: August 30, 2004

Please send the abstracts to SEAL’04 Secretariat on or before June 30, 2004.
Authors are strongly encouraged to to make submissions via email to office@fira.net.

⊆ Paper Submission

- One copy of the extended abstract (800-1000 words) on A4 size paper, prepared
in English, with (at most) two pages of figures (if any). The front page should contain
the title of the paper, full name(s) and address(es) of the author(s) and the appropriate

academic field(s).
- The complete mailing address for the corresponding author should be indicated
on a separate sheet.

⊆ About Venue: Daejeon

Daejeon is in the center of South Korea, and is the secondary administration city
where the Daejeon Government Complex is located. Over the years, Daejeon has
grown into an undisputed center of excellence in science and technology, blending

seamlessly with its rich cultural heritage. With state-of-the-art-facilities that rival those
found in Silicon Valley of the United States, the Daedeok Research Complex plays host
to more than 16,000 highly qualified researchers. The Expo Science Park was built in
1993 to accommodate the Daejeon International Expo, which drew more than 14 million
visitors. The National Science Museum is another landmark that showcases Daejeon's
status as Korea's Silicon Valley.
