News about Prof. Jong-Hwan Kim, President of FIRA


The 14th Asian Games BUSAN 2002 will be held from September 29 to October 14, 2002 in Korea.

The traditional Sacred Torch Lighting Ceremony was already held on September 5, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. The sacred flames obtained at North Korea's Mt. Paekdu and South Korea's Mt. Halla for the
14th Busan Asian Games were united at Imjingak, just south of the inter-Korean border. Following a ceremonial performance, the torch was lit and the torch relay event was declared open.

The Sacred Torch Relay in Korea started on September 7, 2002 and will finish on September 29, 2002. The flame will travel continually by land, air and sea. The complete relay will span a distance of 4,195km, and take 143 routes through the cities, counties and provinces of Korea.
Sixteen city halls and all provincial capitals are included in the routes.

Torch Bearers made up of 11 bearers in each course and Prof. Jong-Hwan Kim, President of FIRA, has been selected as the top bearer in one of the relay courses (between KAIST and Daejeon
Regional Meteorological Office: 1 Km).

Prof Kim's will start his relay course at the Mecha of Science and Technology in Korea at 16:22 pm on September 16, 2002.


Prof. Jong-Hwan Kim was selected as a Torch Bearer in token recognition of his tireless efforts in promoting the development of autonomous soccer-robots and intelligent systems capable of cooperating with one another, and in contributing to the state-of-the-art advancements
in these specialized fields.
