2.2 To Participate in FIRA Robot World Cup
FIRA sincerely looks forward to the participation of the best
teams across the world at the 2002 FIRA Cup Korea. There are
competition categories: MiroSot, NaroSot, RoboSot, HuroSot,
KheperaSot, SimuroSot, and QuadroSot. For details of the FIRA
categories and competition rules, please visit the FIRA web
site (http://www.fira.net/).
Please register or recommend teams to represent your institution/
organization/nation at this world event. Registration Form is
provided below (Item No. 5).
3. Competition Categories
3.1 Introduction of HuroSot
The HuroSot is a competition with real biped robots. We are now
preparing the competition rules for the HuroSot category with
teams from Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Yujin Robotics Co.
(Korea), the University of New Hampshire, Yobotics Inc. (USA),
Hungary, etc. If you would like to join in the HuroSot competition
rule formulation, please E-mail to. A draft of the
rules is available provided by Prof. Jacky Baltes and Thomas Braunl.
Your HuroSot technology will be advertised worldwide through this
event, as we expect good media coverage during the event.
* Co-Chairs of HuroSot 2002
Prof. Thomas Braunl, Univ. of Western Australia
Prof. Jacky Baltes, Univ. of Auckland, New Zealand
3.2 Updated Categories: SimuroSot & Middle League MiroSot
a) SimuroSot
>From the 2001 FIRA Cup China, SimuroSot was included in FIRA
Cup categories. SimuroSot 2002 will be 11-a-side game. It
consists of a server which has the soccer game environments
(playground, robots, score board, etc.) and two client programs with
the game strategies. A 2D color graphic screen displays the match.
Teams can make their own strategies and compete with each other.
Now researchers from Australia, China, and Korea are providing the
3D simulation platform for 11 vs. 11 game. The updated version of
the Simulation platform will be available soon at the FIRA web site
. Currently 2D simulation platform for 11 vs.
11 developed by Prof. Bingrong Hong, China, is available at the
FIRAnet, which is basically the same as the 3D software
platform under development. You may please use it tentatively for
building your strategies for SimuroSot 2002.
* Chair of SimuroSot 2002
Prof. Jun Jo, Griffith Univ., Australia
b) Middle League MiroSot
Middle League MiroSot (5-a-side MiroSot) was included in FIRA
Cup categories at the 2001 FIRA Cup China. From 2002, the
Middle League MiroSot (5-a-side MiroSot) will be a major event.
Over the years, the Small League MiroSot (3-a-side MiroSot) has
become stabilized. In order to pace along with the developments
in technology and to cater a platform to provide more challenging
situations, it was required to introduce the Middle League MiroSot
(5-a-side MiroSot) category. This category will lead researchers
to develop more interesting cooperative and competitive strategies.
Middle League MiroSot game rule is available at the FIRAnet.
The rule contains the layout of the 5-a-side MiroSot playground.
The playground can be covered by a CCD camera with 6mm focal length
and F number 1.4 (F 1.4) around 2m height without distortion.
4. 2002 FIRA Robot World Congress
2002 FIRA Robot World Congress will take place in May 25-27, 2002
along with the FIRA Cup. It will provide a platform for presenting
the technical aspects of robotics in general. The Congress will
contribute the development of robotics in the areas of
entertainment/education robots, personal robots, service robots,
field robots, humanoid robots, etc.
Scientists and technologists involved in related areas are encouraged
to submit technical papers for the 2002 FIRA Robot World Congress.
Also, all participants are recommended to present technical papers
at the FIRA Congress. No restrictions on the qualifications of the
participants will be imposed.
Topics of interest to this Congress include, but not limited to:
- Adaptive Systems
- Artificial Life
- Collective Behavior Emergence
