1. The Results of FIRA Regional Championships
Three regional Championships were held to select the teams for FIRA
Robot World Cup Brazil 1999. The Results are as follows:

The top three teams in each category of the regional championships
qualify to participate in the FIRA Robot World Cup Brazil 1999.
Teams from Canada, Hong Kong, Poland and UK are invited to participate
in the FIRA Brazil'99.
The participating teams for MiroSot, NaroSot, RoboSot and S-KheperaSot
categories should register by July 2, 1999 ator
directly to Dr. Marcel Bergerman.
For more details about the registration, please contact Dr. Bergerman
who is the Local Organizer of FIRA Brazil'99.
2. News from CRSA (FIRA Chinese Robot Soccer Association)
CRSA, which was formally established on April 6th in Beijing, China
will host the FIRA'99 China League from October 6 to 8. To host this
national competition successfully, CRSA has planned to hold a regional
championship on 6th July, in Heilongjiang Sheng in which teams from
six local universities are expected to participate.
Though teams emerging victorious from the China league cannot participate
in the FIRA Robot World Cup Brazil'99 because of time schedule, CRSA is
confident that there will be teams ready for the FIRA Robot World Cup
Australia 2000. They have submitted their proposal to host the FIRA Robot
World Cup 2001 in China. This year the team New NEU (Prof. Xinhe Xu) will
participate in FIRA Brazil'99 as a representative team from China, having
qualified through the Asia-Pacific Regional Championship.
3. FIRA Chapter formed in India
A FIRA Chapter was constituted and inaugurated in India at the Regional
Engineering College, Calicut. The chapter has a home page at vishak.reccal.ernet.in/~fira/>
The Chapter office bearers are:
M.P. Chandrasekharan (Chairman), K. P. Ravindran (Vice-Chair) and Suresh
Rangan (Secretary). There are five faculty members, five other working
members and 31 student members.
4. The First Edition of FIRA Korea Newsletter
The inaugural issue of FIRA Korea Newsletter Vol.1, No.1 was published
on June 16. This newsletter will be reporting the activities of FIRA
in Korea.
5. Meeting with FIFA Vice President Dr. Mong Joon Chung
Prof. Jong-Hwan Kim who is the FIRA Executive President, met Dr. Mong Joon
Chung who is the FIFA Vice President, President of Korea Soccer Association,
Korean National Assembly Member and President of Hyundai Heavy Industry Co.,
Ltd. on June 17. The meeting was held at the Korea Soccer Association Building,
Seoul. Prof. Kim requested that the Korea Soccer Association should help in
the publicity of FIRA Robot World Cup and in hosting the FIRA Korea 2002 along
with the FIFA World Cup Korea-Japan 2002. Dr. Chung promised close cooperation
with FIRA.
